Light Inspired Get Together ~ Ashland, VA
Posted on May 14, 2013
I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a Light Inspired event hosted by Jennifer Warthan in the beginning of May. Jennifer is an amazing photographer, I’ve loved her work for a while now, as a matter of fact, she took photos of my family for Christmas in 2011. Light Inspired is an amazing group of photographers that make up a blog and online forum. The also have a facebook page and of course an instagram. Jennifer was kind enough to host this event, it was nice to get together with a group of photographers from around Virginia and just have fun shooting. We walked around downtown Ashland, VA and found some interesting sights. Here are a few of my favorites.

ha ha ha…. sometimes you gotta do a face, at least my daughter seems to think so.
I can’t wait to attend more events like this in the future, maybe even host something like this, that would fun, what do you think?

Suffolk, VA Family Photographer, Christmas Mini Sessions
Posted on December 18, 2012
One of the wonderful things about hosting Christmas Mini Sessions here on my farm was getting to see couples who’s weddings I have photographed that are now families. I was also able to take photos of some of my family, precious memories I feel are so important. Enjoy!
Meet Jackson! He’s a cutie pie and did such a great job.
January and Jordan came all the way from Texas!
Amanda and Bryan are one of the couples I talked about being at their wedding!
Amanda and Bryan with their son Devan and their niece Ava
Justyce! Need I say more, this little cutie has been in front of my camera many times, the first time, he was a day old.
Justyce and Mommy
Jessica and Jeff, the newlyweds. I didn’t photograph their wedding, because I had the honor of being part of the wedding party. It was a fantastic wedding, Tara Liebeck did a fantastic job with their photos.
Eva, Jack, and Miss Sirena, pure JOY!
Courtney, Ryan, and Nathan!
Nathan again!
Shana and Kyler. Shana is my husbands cousin, my little girl and Kyler love playing together.

Kyler is getting a new little brother soon!
Amanda and Moose, Moose is an alumni of Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center. Adopt a shelter pet and save a life!
Moose is a ham. His mom is pretty hot too.
Andy’s beautiful sister and her handsome hubby.
Sam and Natalie, my niece and nephew.
The whole family
My brother and sister in law and my fantastically chubby nephew, Jayson
Mommy and Daddy each need a shot with the wee man
And we will end with a few photos of me, my beautiful daughter, Tyler, and my wonderful husband Andy. We’ve had a lot changes this year, a new job (which I love!), a new cat (Finn), and the trials and woes of life. I couldn’t have done it without these two. I’m truly blessed.
Merry Christmas everyone! I wish you a blessed and happy New Year.

Changes….
Posted on January 24, 2012
2012 is a year full of changes for my family, good changes, but changes none the less. I feel like right now I need to insert a disclaimer, so here it is, NO! I am not pregnant. It seems like that’s a common presumed thought to moment you say that changes are in store for your family. We are very happy as a family of three and will continue to be this way for the foreseeable future.
My big personal announcement is that I will be starting down a new career path come Feb. 16th. I am making the move from being a 911 dispatcher to becoming an Animal Control Officer, still with the City of Virginia Beach. This is something that I’ve been interested in for quite some time and am incredibly excited to see it come to fruition. This move will impact my schedule in several different ways. First, I will no longer be working midnight shift, and I can tell you, I’m not sad to see that go. Second, I will have some more time to spend with my family and be in a better mood (woohoo!). And third, I will have less time for my business.
Obviously the third reason is why I’m posting here. I will still be shooting, because I love it and it’s a passion for me. The difference is what I will be shooting. I’m going to start focusing my business on portrait photography, specifically high school seniors. I’ve always felt that it’s incredibly important to have a niche as a photographer, it sets you apart. I think shooting everything and anything is a great way to learn, but going to a website and seeing a little of this, a little of that, and a little of everything else, doesn’t really work for me, I would really like to see one thing done well, as opposed to several things done okay. I’m not saying that there aren’t photographers who can’t shoot well in most aspects of photography, because I know there are, but not every photographer can. I know I’m not a good landscape photographer, and that’s okay with me, and I think what’s most important is that I at least realize that fact. As a wedding photographer, while I try and maintain a photo-journalistic approach, I also know that my portrait skills have to be just as good, if not better. This is one reason why so many wedding photographers specialize in both wedding and portrait photography, one thing lends to the other. That being said, I’m going to focus on the portrait side of business. I have lots of plans and ideas, one of which involves using part of my now unused barn as a studio. I cannot wait to start revealing some of my plans and showing off what I’ve been doing.
I have a bunch of weddings (as in my entire 2011 season) to post on the blog still, I’ve made sure to post them to Facebook, so I’m planning on really doing one large post full of my favorites from the 2011 wedding season. I’ll also be revamping my package options for portrait photography. So for those of you who know an up and coming high school senior please send them my way, spring is coming and it’s a great time to get those photos done, it’s not to late for the class of 2012 to get pictures either. Thank you so much to all of my family, friends, and clients who have been supportive of myself, my family, and my business. I look forward to seeing or hearing from all of you in the coming year.
If you are looking for a wedding photographer and came across my page, please still fill out the contact form and I will be sure to send you information on a couple of other fantastic area wedding photographers.
I really believe that no blog post should go without photos, so here are some of my own family from our portrait session right before Christmas. Credit goes to the fabulous Jennifer Warthan of Warthan Farms Photography
The three of us…
My beautiful little girl, she just turned 4 on the 12th, hard to believe it’s been 4 years

Me and my honey, today is his birthday, he’s a wonderfully amazing and supportive husband and father, God chose so well for me, I’m blessed.

I’m looking forward to a fantastic and exciting 2012 and I hope to see some of y’all along the journey.

Virginia Beach Engagement Photography ~ Cora and Derrick
Posted on April 5, 2011
I’ve known Cora for over 10 years now, which made it so that when she came to me asking about engagement photos I was shocked. How on earth did that happen? Needless to say I figured it out, so we spent some time planning and arranging schedules and I finally got to meet Derrick. We had a great time at Munden Point Park, they also brought along their dog Peanut for a few “family” shots.
