A little about Becca

First let me start by saying, I'm a wife to Andy and a mom to Tyler, also the proud slave to two horses, Dillon and Blue, and one great dog, Braun. I have a passion for photography that just won't quit. I believe there is always more to learn and I take the time to continue doing so, through both reading and classes. When I'm not spending time with my family, editing pictures, at my full time job, or sleeping, you can find me at the barn. A little about my gear: I shoot with all high quality Nikon ditigal equipment. I have a main and back up camera, so no worries there. I also have off camera flash and some great lenses, everything I need to capture all those special moments. I edit all my pictures using my trusty Mac, Adobe Lightroom 2 and Adobe Photoshop CS4. A little about this site: Instead of having both a blog and a website I have found an option that combines both into one. So please look around and come back often as you will be able to see my latest work through my blog below. At the top of the page you will find links to my portfolio galleries. I love comments so please leave me one. The picture you see of me being silly is courtesy of Andi Grant Photography. Thanks for visiting, hope to see you back soon

Portsmouth Virginia Wedding Photographer ~ Grand Affairs Chesapeake ~ Wes and Jolenda Married

Posted on November 14, 2009

Wes and Jolenda were married on the 24th of Oct. at the lovely St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Portsmouth, VA.  They were surrounded by friends and family.  After a short break between pictures at the church we headed off to Grand Affairs in Chesapeake for some more pictures and then a great reception.  I can’t begin to express how much I appreciated all the time I had to take pictures with this couple and their awesome bridal party, we ended up with some great images.

Wes and Jolenda are the first couple to have booked me from my first ever bridal show.  I don’t think I’ll ever forget when Jolenda asked me if I was available for Oct. 24th, and all I could say, “of this year?”  As you can see it all worked out.  I had a great time with ya’ll and I wish you the best of luck.  I hope you enjoy some of my favorites.

As always, I’ll start off with some details… but for those of you that enjoy my ring shots… you’ll have to wait ;o)

blog001

Make-up for the girls was done by a friend, she did a fabulous job. Glenda (aka Grandmom) walking to the church with the flower girls, and the beautiful St. Paul’s church.
blog002

I mean really, could it be any prettier?
blog003

With a first kiss like this you know the portrait session is gonna be fun!
blog004

Okay, I’ve held out long enough, the bling, oh, I mean rings
blog005

I love it when the bridal party plays along with my strange suggestions
blog006

Okay, so when I looked at these two shots the first thing that went through my mind was, man, they are gonna have some pretty babies. Don’t you agree?!?
blog007

I love the snuggle, it’s sweet everytime I see it
blog008

So while I was writing out my little cheat sheet for putting captions on photos I entitled this set, “looking down, looking up” pretty much says it all
blog009

Beautiful bride
blog010

So the sky decided to be dramatic for us when it came time for these, Thanks God for giving me a beautiful sky to photograph
blog011

My 2nd shooter Robbie said to Wes, whisper something naughty in her ear… so here you have the whisper and the reaction
blog012

First dance. I did a little cross process on the top image, I like the washed out color look, but since I know not everyone will, I made sure to give you a normal one too. Also do you see the Grand Affairs staff in the upper left corner, I think they enjoyed the dance as well.
blog013

Wes’ parents flew in from Hawaii to share this day with their son and new daughter-in-law. Isn’t that cool.
blog014

Joe had Jolenda smiling and laughing their whole dance.
blog015

Joe gave the best father of the bride speech ever.
blog016

And this is the reaction to said speech.
blog017

Yummy cake, it had raspberry filling
blog018

I really don’t think this one needs an explanation, but it felt weird not to type right here
blog019

I love that you can see they threw their respective tossing items the exact same.
blog020

Jolenda’s grandparent came from Guam, which is farther, Guam or Hawaii? I really have no clue and that’s sad.
blog021

Glenda getting her groove on.
blog022

I would usually end a wedding post with the bride and groom; however; Joe and Glenda were celebrating an anniversary so I will give them honors of last picture, I hope ya’ll had a nice anniversary.
blog023

Wes and Jolenda-
I had such a fantastic time working with ya’ll. Thanks for letting me share in your day. I can’t wait till I get a phone call saying your ready for a maternity shoot (eventually).

Best wishes,
Becca

Lighthouse on the Cove ~ Virginia Beach Wedding Photographer ~ Christa and Bryan

Posted on October 25, 2009

Christa and Bryan were married on Oct. 17th at Lighthouse on the Cove in Virginia Beach.  They had a beautiful wedding which they celebrated with friends and family.  One of the things I love most about shooting weddings is the families of the bride and groom.  Every couple I have photographed has had wonderful welcoming families, it makes for a great day.  Christa and Bryan were no exception to this rule and because they both have a lot of family it made it even more special.  I have never seen a relationship so wonderful between divorced parents as I saw this day, you’ll see it in one of the last pictures.  I would like to send a special thanks to two people, the first of which is probably one of the best DJ’s I’ve worked with, Jay Johnson from Astro Dj’s, Jay was very personable and very fun, I would recommend him to any of my future brides.   I got to bring Shelly Simpson along with me to this wedding, we had a blast shooting together, thanks for everything Shelly.  To see Christa and Bryan’s complete galleries click here.

Please enjoy a few of my favorites

For those of you that follow my blog you know I love ring shots, this is probably my all time favorite, it’s the bright popping color, you would have never known it was 50 degrees out and drizzly that day!

This lovely bouquet was made by a friend of the family, she did a fantastic job

Jasmine Plantation Wedding, Williamsburg, VA with Angela Garfield

Posted on October 14, 2009

What a beautiful day it turned out to be when I had a chance to shoot with Angela Garfield. We had a blast and I learned some pretty cool lighting from a fellow Nikon girl. Jasmine Plantation is beautiful with a great set up for outdoor wedding and even a nice room for indoor events.  I can’t wait to shoot another wedding there soon (hint hint future brides.)

Some great details.. this wedding was full of them… the rings are my favorite

Knotts Island, NC ~ Engagement Photography ~ Sarah and Brendan

Posted on September 29, 2009

I met Sarah a few weeks ago at my very first bridal show!  She actually won this session in my give-away.   Sarah and Brendan are very sweet and flirty, it was so much fun to work with them.  We went for a bit of a walk to get to this spot, but it was worth it, the beautiful sunset and the hot couple were a great combination.  This decked trail was the site of one of their first dates.

I can’t wait to see them on their wedding day
